Answer: Typically 50 – 60 characters is best.
This is true whether you are trying to improve SEO or create great social shares.
Why? Most search engines will truncate titles longer than 60 characters. If your title is too long, prospective customers won’t see the last word. If your title is too short you aren’t giving a reader enough information to decide if your page will have what they are looking for.
And if you plan on sharing the content on social media, the research shows titles of 8 – 10 words work well, because there are still characters left to describe the article
