Question: Which social media platform is best?
Answer: The short answer is wherever your customers are.
Dfferent businesses have different audiences. One demographic spends most of their time on Facebook, while another really only engages on LinkedIn, and some divide their time equally between three or more sites. Find out where your customers are, and follow them there.
A few general rules of thumb:
- Facebook tends to be most popular among communities 40 and up. It has the lion’s share of online users. According to the Pew Research Center’s report, 62% of all online men and 72% of all online women use Facebook,
- Instagram attract only about half as many people as Facebook, but it is significantly more popular among communities younger than 35
- Twitter is one of the best platforms to connect with other social influencers in your community. It has a much smaller community, skews younger, but not quite as young as Instagram. Successful accounts post multiple times every day, so it requires more time and attention than the other platforms.
- Not surprising, LinkedIn the white collar, business network attracts an educated, urban, more affluent customer.
